The fifth Rutland Sailing Club Holiday week finished in a
competitive blast as all competitors took part in a Topper relay race just off
the front lawn. This was the finale to a fantastic week where the sailors
combined racing with Dunkirk re-enactment ( with artistic license); A full
scale Pirate battle; Ice cream sails; model boat building and racing; stunt
teddies competing in parachute jumping as well as zip wire action. There were
pub quizzes; Singing Sally; teddy bears’ picnics and a big end of week disco.
There was barely time for sleep!
With 12 borrowed boats and a personal race scoring system there were plenty of opportunities to try new boats or sail with a friend. With fantastic trophies handmade by Kerrie Noon there was a greater focus on doing well. Over 60 sailors competed in the Main Race series with Elliot Marshall in his Tera coming out on top with Sarah and Kata Kemp in second and Zach Morley in third. In the Junior fleet there were over 30 competitors and a hard fought competition. Oscar Morley came out on top following in the footsteps of big brother Henry. In second place was Alex Noon and in third Owen Lightfoot. Congratulations to all competitors who sailed well and in the spirit of fun and friendly competition.
The Novice adult competition saw a few new faces on the race track. In first place Rob Noon, second place Kerrie Noon and third place Chris Monk.
In the Topper fleet racing Charlie Jeynes came out on top chased by Alex Litt and Chris Bettinson. In the Stig run it was Jeremy Lightfoot and David Dunkling who topped the Stig board.
It was a great week which saw a lot of the kids taking part in their first ever races. Just off the shore and with adult coaching the racing world becomes a lot friendlier a place to be.
The model boat race was won by Kata Kemp and a very proud dad! Second Ben and Tom, third Evie Coates. The teddy bears parachute jump had 3 categories: longest distance travelled - Spot owned by Oliver Stenhouse; longest time in the air – little ted owned by Jame Tylecote; fist teddy to land in a boat won by Natasha’s teddy. Well done to all daring teddies.
The week aims to have something for everyone of all ages and abilities. It is great fun and helps members get to know and sail with other members. If you missed it this year book it in your diary for next!
