Rutland Family Holiday Week 2010 Highlights
Written by Fiona Tylecote
Thursday, 02 September 2010
Rutland Sailing club members are recovering from a fast action packed week of sailing, racing and just messing about in boats which all formed part of the now annual Family Holiday Week. The objective of the week is to develop family group involvement in the club, to facilitate friendships and crewing groups and to encourage everyone out on to the water. It is open only to members and guests of members allowing ongoing friendships to be built. There is a combination of spirited, close to the shore racing and a variety of less serious activities including cruises and group adventures – most involve getting just a bit wet and finding the child in everyone!...

Handicap changes
Written by Fiona Tylecote
Thursday, 19 August 2010
The Sailing Committee have carried out a detailed analysis of handicaps and as a result a number of changes have been proposed and accepted. The analysis includes data from large handicap events at Rutland and at similar venues ( Chew Valley, Queen Mary and Ullswater) over the past 2 years. This data has been analysed in line with the recommendations from the RYA, based on the statistical spread of sailors and average times as detailed below.

For classes which are generally only raced at Rutland, the results from Sunday and Thursday night racing have been reviewed, and changes made appropriately.

These new handicaps will be used for The Club Championships and will be used in standard club racing once a new series begins. The start of a new series and the handicap changes will be highlighted on the signing on sheets.

The figures will continue to be analysed.

Boats not listed will sail as per RYA published handicaps

RUTLAND LASER NEWS – AUGUST 2010

July has been a great month for sailing, great winds every weekend and lots of sunshine, perfect sailing conditions. The water is now lovely and warm as many of us can testify so if you still haven’t had your boat out, the club mower is available from the Bosun (to use at your own risk) and the conditions are good for sailing.

The ladies have been taking full advantage of the sailing school's Friday night tuition sessions with 3 of our newest members making this their priority in their quest to get to grips with their Lasers. They have been finding these sessions very rewarding as they have had regular tuition and practice with expert instruction from the sailing school. Once again, this session is open to all club members and if you are interested in having some tuition to help you gain confidence on the water this is the best environment to get involved with, and it is free of charge. If you are interested check in with the sailing school on Friday evenings at 6pm, or come down to the ‘Bring and Burn’ evening on Friday the 30th July again at 6pm where the rest of the fleet will be joining in this session and we can introduce you to the instructors and the rest of the fleet...
