The Masters' Spring Event at Rutland scheduled for 17th & 18th April has been moved to 24th & 25th April to allow U.K. Masters helms to enter the Qualifier at Hayling Island.
Thanks to the loan of some Firefly dinghies on Saturday 27th, and thanks to a reliable although light breeze, we were able to have a great team racing practice. The fun was enhanced by the Fevas joining in for the afternoon session when we expanded to the full course snaking across the middle of the lake just off shore. So who is Paul Elvstrom? Well I can't do a complete biography here but he is the most celebrated Olympian yachtsman ever and has won 15 world championships in 8 classes. Why is he relevant? Well in the morning we saw several sailors manage to race the fireflies singlehanded which is how Paul had to race when the Firefly was used as the single handed class in 1948 in Torbay.....
The first Laser class focus day scheduled for the 14th march 2010 appears to clash with Mothers day, to enable a good fleet for the first Laser class focus day we are changing this date to the following sunday the 21st march..
The Winter Regatta was on the 20th and 21st of February. With a good morning on Saturday the racing was ready to get underway after a quick postponement due to the lack of wind. After the slight hiccup, the first start signal was raised..
Over 200 children from 80+ clubs braved the icy conditions to take part in one of the country's premier youth sailing events. Whilst most children were out polishing off their sledges, this hardy lot were brushing the snow and ice off their boats before going on the water..
After their great success last year the Inland Championships are again being held at Rutland Sailing Club for 2010.
To be held 2nd - 4th April, 2010, I.e. from Good Friday to Easter Sunday. First warning signal is at 1pm Friday, and you should be off the water by 3pm Sunday. For those on the Hamble, Rutland is less than 3 hours away, so you can leave home Friday morning and be back for Sunday dinner. Nine races are scheduled for the Championship (3-4-2 per day).Plus there will be an additional one-off short "Ultimate Test Race" which will be on a different format, with separate prizes. This race is not part of the Championship series. There will be a Fleet Dinner (price only £11pp), plus an Entertainment, with £200 worth of prizes donated by Gill International. Entry is only £65 per boat if received by 29th March. There is a late entry penalty. Launching will be free, and will be assisted by volunteers. And leave your outboards at home - you can't use them on Rutland Water! T-shirts and free photos are being made available by Teamb4ego, see www.tb4e.com. This event was greatly enjoyed by all last year, so do be there.
