The sun came out and the Lasers went sailing!
Despite an appalling forecast there was a great turnout of club Laser sailors this Sunday to fight for the prestigious title of Rutland Sailing Club Laser Champion. They were to be rewarded with warmth, a little wind and fabulously close racing..

The club is still under a blanket of snow this morning following fridays snowfalls. The approach roads to the club (past the school and on the lane) are completely snow covered and are very icy indeed so please take extreme care if coming to the club today. ).
The club race officer is unable to get to the club today so at this stage THERE WILL BE NO CLUB RACING TODAY AND NO JUNIORS.
The windchill is expected to be -6 C to -8 C to please do wrap up warm and only make essential visits to the club. Please remember that you can pay your subs over the phone by credit or debit card if this makes things easier for you.

Rutland sailors put in a great appearance at the Laser Inlands this weekend. The home team had 11 representatives on the water which was a tremendous achievement and shows the depth in the club fleet at the minute.
With over 200 boats on the water it was somewhat different to club racing and all sailors showed great determination. There were moments of glory too. Jon Williams, Steve Tylecote and Rob Stenhouse (who is in his 70's) all had turns at leading their fleets.
Steve and Jon battled hard for the masters prize which was eventually won rowly by Steve.
Steve was top club boat coming 7th in the std rig with Jon in 9th.
But the big winner was the club with such a great turn out. Well done to all our local competitors.

This week saw 19 juniors take to the water. The weather was good with sunshine, mild temperatures and a moderate to fresh cross-shore breeze. The guys were split into two groups. Simon took 8 of the larger more experienced sailors and the rest came with me. My guys doubled up so that they had more weight on board to help keep the boats balanced.
