In this week’s newsletter:- Sunday Sailing, Back on The Water Day, Coaching Day, New Members, Boat Foils, Cat Open, Upcoming Events at the Club Sunday Sailing What a great week we are having with the weather. Last Sunday saw a continuation of the light winds we have suffered for the past couple of weeks. High pressure usually brings light variable winds but on the plus side sunshine. The dry suit and thermals were over the top. Almost wet suit weather. The conditions were very testing with shifty winds. In the morning series only the first race was sailed with Phil, David and Jamie taking to the water. The race officer canned the second race in favour of lunch. Good call. In the afternoon the wind picked up. I joined Phil and Dave in my F16. Not much changed until the last lap of race 1 when a good breeze filled in for a while. Almost trapeezing weather. Jamie packed up ready for a trip to Weymouth for the weekend. The Frostbite series’ have now ended with Phil taking first place, Jamie second and me third in the p.m. series and Phil, David and Jamie taking first, second and third respectively in the a.m. series. This coming Sunday sees the start of the ‘Warmup’ series. Back on the Water Day Sunday 22nd. April If the weather has not whetted your appetite yet then why not plan to come to the ‘Back on the Water’ day for the Cat Fleet. Sunday 22 April. Meet in the club house 10:00ish. for a coffee, bacon butties etc. Take off those covers and wash down the boat. Rig your boat and chat to other cat sailors. I’ll be there to give advice to those who want it. Get your boat ready to sail. Have some lunch and then launch. Perhaps a sail down to the water tower/Whitwell and back. Pack away and then start the BBQ. Things to bring:- Bucket and sponge, sailing gear, disposable BBQ, meat, salad, etc. I will also be raffling a voucher for a ½day 1:1 personal sailing coaching at the sailing school kindly donated by Flying Phil the A-Class guru. Proceeds to the fleet funds. Hope to see as many of you as possible on the day. Coaching Day Sunday 29th April I have had a good response so far with 5 boats booked in for the day. There are 5 spaces left. Please let me know if you wish to attend. Details are as follows:- The day will be targeted at beginners/improvers with lots of practice at tacking, gybing, downwind sailing, really basic stuff. There will be an opportunity for feedback and advice on improvement in technique etc. The day may also include some short races in the afternoon with starting practice and mark rounding. The day can be tailored to suit the needs of those attending. I have arranged for the day to be run by RSS and have agreed the following rates which I think you will agree are very competitive. Full Day's Coaching:- 9.30 – 4.30 4-6 boats £25 per boat; 7-10 boats £20 per boat. New Members We welcome 4 new members to the Cat Fleet, Adrien with a Dart16, Martin with a Hobie 14, Paul with a Dart 16, and welcome back into the fleet Richard with his A-Class. Boat Park and Boat Foils I have now completed the boat park audit. We are in a position where we have used all the available spaces for boats and may need to start to look for alternative parking for the trailers parked in the row at the top of the boat park. I’ll keep you posted. A request from me. Could you please take a moment to stick your 2012 boat foils onto your boats. Only about 10 boats had the 2012 foil attached when I did the audit. If you can attach them to the stern of one of your hulls that would be preferable. The same with trailers. If you keep a trailer at the club please stick the your trailer foil in a visible location. Next to the tow hitch is a good place. Cat Open Planning and preparation for the Club Cat Open on the weekend of the 19/20May is well under way. If you are planning to enter could you let me know as soon as possible. It will help me with the planning and budgeting. Upcoming Events at the Club Thursday 29th March 7:00 p.m. for 7:30 p.m. – RACING RULES EVENING TALK Food served at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm. Home made Lasagne or Vegetarian Lasagne (£6-50 pp) An ideal opportunity to brush up on the racing rules ready for the start of the Thursday night series! BOOK YOUR PLACES AND FOOD AT THE OFFICE. Food bookings must be made with the office by 1pm on Thursday 29 March. Start Of Thursday Evening Racing Thursday 5th. April sees the start of our first Thursday series races. 18:30 start for the first three weeks then 19:00 thereafter. RSC Catamaran Fleet Programme 2012
That’s all for now. Watch out for future editions and news as it happens. Things to ponder:- What was the best thing before sliced bread? John Terry. Cat. Fleet Captain. |
